Ever since I started to play guitar in my teens I was reading positive thinking books. They helped me inch along and motivated me stay on path at the times when I could not find anyone as serious about their music as I was.
Today in similar fashion I want to tell you about an absolutely awesome series from my friend C.J. who is the driving force behind Metal Motivation. C.J. has been making some serious waves with his Metal Motivation vision and the Life Domination Series is an awesome force designed to equip you in life. I listen to it often and these messages made a great gym companion on my ipod.
Now, this is not the type of mind over matter thinking as some of the motivational gurus. It is rather mind over your lazy ass in C.J.'s words. And, I have to agree. Among countless other ideas, C.J. covers determination, diligence, drive as well as topics on maximizing your resources, decision making, stopping negative self-talk, building confidence, overcoming depression, stress and confusion. Now, what I love about this is that you get a fellow metalhead speaking right to you which makes the whole thing hit home.
As musicians we face many things that come across our way and staying grounded, motivated and equipped to face the long journey is a huge plus. The ideas contained in the series (you don't have to buy the whole thing, you can buy these in well priced volumes) definitely apply to our life as metal musicians. Heck, the whole series is based on an idea called Metalosophy. Need I say more?
